Im thinking the power assist steering belt is a common weak link as far as annoying faults would go. They must stretch a bit over time, eventually causing steering stiffness while parking & at slow speeds e.t.c & a nasty screeching noise in the engine bay.
Too the touch you can see its not as tight as it could be + probably a 5 minute job for a friendly mechanic..

Think mine is squeeling very slightly, more so in cold damp mornings.

Been through a couple on my gen3

Are they a straight forward swap?

Jack up, wheel off, mud guard off, drop alternator (might as well change that belt too), loosen PAS belt, remove and replace. Genuine belts are the ones. They last MUCH longer than aftermarket.

And if, after all that, you find it starts squeaking again after a few days, check the alternator belt tension. Lack of tension on that belt can cause slippage on the PAS belt.

Cheers for that might get the bits together ready for a decent dry day.

Piece of cake. Just done mine on gen 1. So here goes, slacken tension on ps and alternator belt, take off alt belt. Then off ps belt will come. Replace ps belt ..easy then. Unless you have fingers made of smoke jack front of car up ( use stands also ) pop alt belt onto either of the top 2 pulleys in engine bay and push belt down to the lower pulley. Get under car and reach round above the splash guard and you will feel pulley and belt, now hook belt onto pulley. Finish hooking belt on to top pulleys and retension both. Check before that on properly. I used wire to keep top of belt still when under car. Takes time but methodical is key- should take you less than half hour. Hope this helps.

Defoe not a coupe fault tho, it's only a belt,,,, has a lifespan of work like everything else does, cheep and cheerful don't last as long.
