New owner, old car
Hello everyone :D
Just before chrimbo I had to sell my beloved "Beast", a 2001 Honda VTR1000 SP-1 (That's a motorcycle!) which I'd had since 2006, because I simply couldn't afford to make her UK legal (I lived in the Netherlands for 12 years - for the windmills & tulips, obviously ).
I just HAD to get something 'special' as a replacement, so when a 2003 V-6 appeared outside my local (2-man) garage, I snapped her up for the princely sum of £1295.
I called her "Haechi" after the mascot of the Seoul Olympics.
She has tinted passenger & rear windows, a stainless steel 'zorst & low-profile wheels & tyres. 97K on the clock, but she's been well looked after. The only change I made was to swap out the CD player for the Pioneer USB player from my old workhorse 1992 Astra 1.7TDS (now scrapped), I'm a BIG fan of (very loud) Prog Rock.
... and although some might say she's old & cheap she's still the newest, most expensive CAR I've ever owned (I'm 55!)
I'm totally in love with her, and wish I had reason to drive her more than the current ~150 miles/month. Haven't taken her 'much' beyond 120 so far but hey - that's not bad for an A road
Me? I used to be an industrial electrical engineer (overhead & harbour cranes) but I'm 'on the sick' now for a variety of problems. Single, no kids, one slightly-mad 3 y.o. miniature Pinscher called Merlin, who has more FaceBook friends than I do
I spend most of my time in front of my PCs, a 17-year forum veteran with mod/admin positions at several. I'm quite involved with social activism, alternative media, 'crypto-currencies' & for relaxation I'm also a keen player of 'Elite:Dangerous' & 'Skyrim'. When not in front of the 'puter, I enjoy dog-walking, power-kiting & blowpiping (former Dutch champion).
Looking forward to getting to know you all over the coming months & years

Welcome. Prog, you say? Genesis, Moody Blues, BJH, Steve Hackett, Tim Bowness, Nick Magnus, tony Patterson (New album in post to me today!) - Any of these in your list?
Mk 3 Astra, great cars, Mk 4 - where did it all go wrong!

Re: New owner, old car
Thanks, guys
Prog? Pretty much anything, from old to new. Apart from Steve Wilson, he's a bit of a dick (Sorry, Danarama)
Mostly I have morow.com as the soundtrack to my life, 24/7 prog with no stupid ads & no lame DJs, give it a whirl. My own mp3 collection is about 20,000 tracks (& counting!) I have a couple of thumb-drives I keep refreshing for 'on the road' as commercial radio makes me
Bands that have impressed me recently include:-
Flaming Row
Circus Maximus
Psychic for Radio
Long Distance Calling
Knight Area
Black Noodle Project &
Mystery
But I'm also into the amazing Mostly Autumn, Aryeon, Nightwish, Pagans' Mind, Sonata Arctica, Epica, Magenta, Dream Theatre .... you get the drift by now, yes?
Going back to Haechi, I see her as a Korean homage to the "English Gentlemans' Sportscar", a poor (in my case, VERY poor ) mans' DBS. In a perfect world, she'd be rear-wheel drive & have at least 300 gee-gees but hey, she's good enough for me as she is
Yes, I do miss the 0-60 in 2.8 secs, 190mph top speed of 'The Beast' but gotta face the fact that I'm just too old, fat & creaky to live that lifestyle anymore. Happy to have lived through it, TBT
Here's a quick taste of what I used to get up to... https://youtu.be/hDmn0p_3z5Y
Anyone travelling the A69, feel free to drop by for a cuppa & a chat, anytime

@ben.loader - Seen them both live, 2 of the best gigs ever. Nightwish @ Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam & Epica @ De Kade, Zaandam (My former 'local')
- But I gave up gigging when the smoking ban came in. T'waz SO kewl to be able to skin up on the stage before the band came on

Re: New owner, old car
Yeamon
I've been playing Elite since '86 - on a Spectrum 128 with wireframe gfx!
Currently a member of Ghost Squadron, based in Phiagre, helping with the growth of the Sovereign Justice Collective (player faction). My fave ship is my combat Python "Monty, of Course".
I play on a 32" screen, with a Saitek X-52 Pro HOTAS (with my smartphone running a custom Roccat Powergrid control extension over the useless MFD panel) & a Logitech 550W 5.1 surround system - as I have no 'family' apart from Merlin, and no close neighbours, I can play as loud as I want
I'm guessing you play too, if you want to add me I'm "Lion Freeman" & I'm usually on Discord for voice & text chat.

I see both live in London several times, better still when Tarja Turunen was still in NW. :DLionOfNarnia wrote:@ben.loader - Seen them both live, 2 of the best gigs ever. Nightwish @ Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam & Epica @ De Kade, Zaandam (My former 'local')
