Insurance - Been checking them out!
So Patricia's car insurance is due.
Compared several companies including the forum ones,
Quote is for Patricia 8 years no claims, fully comp,me as a named driver, all mods including coilovers, brakes and induction
churchill
The original insurer coming in with breakdown cover we Didnt want at £324-excess £350
SKY
extremely dissapointed considering they are always asking to advertise here they came in at £360 and said they couldn't go any lower, but a lower excess of £250. Have to say bit of a let down, they obviously talk the talk but don't walk the walk.ollie.......very poor. The advisor was very apologetic and pleasant almost as though he felt insulted telling me the price
prestige
Came in at £300 with a £350 excess.im told they won't go below 300 which doesn't really inspire me to be honest and doesn't really encourage me to ring.....very pleasant call though very helpful guy called Dave, who had the best phone manner.
Adrian flux
Won the day at £280 with £200 excess.usual good manners on the phone, and very helpful if a bit pushy(shall we ring you back...we can ring you back....quote may not last beyond today.......) bit pushy but phone manner was fine

Re: Been checking them out!
Sky have been a complete letdown for me and AF. They throw quotes of thousands when I'm already getting ones for a couple hundred quid. I've called them 3 years in a row and they have failed every time.

Re: Been checking them out!
bloody hell rik, im paying a lot less than that with 5yrs ncb on the 197, makes you wonder whats the point in insurance group numbers, have you got a bad post code or something mate?
on another note i have noticed a few companies have started to do the same as prestige and wont go below the £300 mark, my parents changed insurer after 5 trouble free years because of this (and they managed to get a cheaper quote online

Re: Been checking them out!
Personally I would steer clear of Adrian Flux, too many bad experiences with them to ever go back... Prestige is fine if your quotes are over £300 elsewhere as they have a minimum quote of £300.
Have you tried GreenLight insurance? They require a minimum NCD to go with them and as such their quotes are normally very competitive (although I forgot about them when changing my insurance this time round)

I've just seen this & thanks for the comments about Dave - he's a great guy. I'll pass your comments to him if that's OK as words of encouragement
Kind regards

This is exactly the reason I didn't go with Prestige, I'm only paying £260 per year for the same cover elsewhere...thedupleman wrote:Came in at £300 with a £350 excess.im told they won't go below 300 which doesn't really inspire me to be honest and doesn't really encourage me to ring.....very pleasant call though very helpful guy called Dave, who had the best phone manner.

Of course you're always free to call Chris Knott for a quote even if you're paying under £300.

Re: Insurance - Been checking them out!
Funny enough, Chris Knott were £50 more expensive than Prestige when I called, which made them £100 more expensive than my current insurer per year...ChrisKnottIns wrote:Of course you're always free to call Chris Knott for a quote even if you're paying under £300.
However, once I get rid of the Audi and get myself a new car I will re-try the quotes

Re: Been checking them out!
That makes no sense at all. If you write a gen 1 off worth £350 it's a claim for £350. You have light frontal setting the airbags off in an s111 worth 5 grand with car hir fees etc your looking at a 2 grand claim, it may not be a write off but it's alot bigger claim cost.hyunky wrote:Tom (HappyApril) works for insurance company and partly explained this recently... As the older Cars/Gens are just about always a complete a write off in the event of an accident they are more expensive to insure... It was therefore cheaper for a member to insure 2.0L Siii than 1.6 Gen 1/2... The cheapest Coupe for me to insure with my provider is a V6 Siii Auto at £50 less than mine (based on standard)cervantes wrote:bloody hell rik, im paying a lot less than that with 5yrs ncb on the 197

Re: Insurance - Been checking them out!
I rang all three of our insurance sponsors yesterday as I've just received my renewal from my current insurer.
None of them could beat my renewal figure, two of them were around £250 dearer and the other was £550 dearer.
All of them were very courteous though, and apologised for not being competitive for me this time.
I'll try them again next year, see what they can come up with.

Re: Insurance - Been checking them out!
I switched from Flux to Chris Knott this year .
They were not only cheaper than Flux but they also agreed to do the admin , for when I do swap the car in a few weeks , totally free of charge . Also in between I am going to take the private reg off the coupe and put the old one back on , the admin for this is also being done free of charge.
Can't fault them in fairness

I'd like to say it could be worse, I've had some silly quotes myself though luckily managed to find cheaper, can't help but feel there should be a regulatory body enforcing a cap on insurance costs, even more so now with the proliferation of black box schemes

Re: Been checking them out!
Generally cheaper car = more likely to get into an accident. I can insure my RX-8 for £1,200 yet I can get £700 for a brand new Audi S1 which is only a tad slower... depends on the car, the postcode, your age, your profession etc etc etc there's far too many parameters to say that the age of the car is just the only cause. Point being, the stats for those who drive older cars are worse than those who drive newer cars. I never ever see new audi's wrapped round a lampost but in only a week I saw a Micra wrecked, an old Evo and also a bug eye subaru all smashed up...pg3r wrote: That makes no sense at all. Just look at any of the facebook groups for the coupe, every second post is some kid writing off their coupe...
Thanks HCOC, it's been great

Re: Insurance - Been checking them out!
It's a shame none of the 3 could do me a better quote, as I like to keep everything 'inter club' if I can, but I'm saving at least £250 by staying where I am.
My insurer does vehicle changes free of charge too.
