I jacked the coupe up the other day to change the oil and filter so did what I normally do and used the trolley jack under the front crossmember. However as I'd just repainted said crossmember I used a rubber pad on the jack to avoid damage and that's where it all went wrong .

As I jacked it up the rubber pad moved sideways and the jack slipped off the front of the crossmember with the result that the weight of the car was now resting on the radiator which bent the top brackets and lifted it out of its fittings at the bottom . Sorting it out I managed to straighten the top brackets and reseat the rad in its pins.

I thought I'd got away with it for a couple of days but a small dribble started from the top seam and although I tried Radseal it was still damp after a run so no choice but another new rad . ( I only fitted this one two years ago ) .

A reasonably happy ending though . I ordered a new one from Carparts4less for the very remarkable price of £55 delivered( It's the auto with built in oil cooler- List price £307 ) Ordered at 2pm on Wed. and it arrived by carrier at 11.30 on Thurs. Just be careful out there folks

Nightmare story but glad you got it sorted. Hope it didn't do any damage to the bumper.

I always try to get the towing eye into the Jack so it has something to catch on. My towing eye has been hammered flat (low car high kerbs) but it works as a great Jack support.

Was thinking a while back of getting one of those puck things to go on the end of the jack as my passenger side jacking point is a little bit mangled but think i'll leave as is after seeing this.

I always put a block of wood on the jack as I've had mine slip off a pad before

always put a block in between the subframe and the jack...

One of my trolley jacks has the hockey puck for side up jacking and I have a selection of timber for under subframes etc. Couple of 18" squares of 13mm HDF as well for placing axle stands on to even the ground out.
Always a good option I have found.

Oh no sorry to read this mate. i normaly sit the saddle of the jack on the middle towing eye. but even then it can slip.

I use one of those rubber pucks but mine has a slit in it for use in the stock jacking areas so it doesnt move.
If lifting both front/rear wheels I dont use the puck, and instead I stuck some thin felt on the metal to prevent scratches without the risk of anything slipping.

Cracking price on the rad, mate.

I find The car is a little low for my jack. Ihave bought an electric 3 ton scissor jack.

Good idea. On the towing point at the front it's best to just have the normal jack foot but on the side one of those puckwith a slot is great as it's stops the edge being crushed
