What I think he would most likely do is lean the whole map out a little due to Hyundai running these motors pretty rich from the factory. That's across the board on their whole lineup since 1995.

Another option for him is to advance timing, or "allow" the adaptive timing to advance further. Hyundai has the ECU programmed so that no matter what fuel you use, the timing will only advance so far. The knock sensor will retard it with bad fuel, but advancing is limited to a point. You can take advantage of all kinds of fuels if this was done, including ethanol.

Also, removing the rev limiter is a BIG plus with the 2.0L and 2.7L since modifications tend to shift the power closer to and even beyond 7krpm.
that's pretty much how i imagine it to be, still a one size fits all type map, just with certain figures moved up the range a tad like the timing advance.

Its also worth noting that ross doesnt modify the map himself, he sends it off to be done

If you want to send it to switzerland (or sweden, i forget) be my guest.
Ross just accesses the cpu, copies from it, sends it off then does the overwrite.

Gotcha. I misunderstood what you said and thought he was sending the ECU itself off elsewhere. (Having re-read your post I'm not sure how I reached this conclusion)

Had this discussion when I mapped mine.... but if I can remember correctly, the ECU chip is soldered AND GLUED on the GB coupe's right? so removing them wil risk braking the ecu chip?? :angry-nono:

BTW: when removed, the remap can be performed and will stay on! Mine is the living proof of that! :happy-partydance:

Do you have before/after figures that can serve as the requisite temptation for the rest of us Gavin?

Mine is booked in on the 3rd of March. Will be leaving the car with him for the day and then picking it up the following day

A better option in my opinion, will be interested in your feedback on how it performs.

I may have to wait for your trip then Carlsberg and see what you think.

Probably take that long before weather up here when I have a day off to get the ECU out happens anyway :icon-lol:

As the coupe is my daily driver, I can afford to have one day off work to get it done. Couldn't send him my ECU

3hr to do the job but he told me up to 2 weeks. Even factoring in 2-3 days each way for postage that's a massive difference

I'll be watching this thread closely.
I really need a power boost and this ECU remap seems the ticket to do so.

I have a bog standard 2007 1.6 coupe FX.
I think you guys class it as a Siii body type, but hoping something can be done in gaining a bit more power for this model.
While the 1.6 engine isn't that bad at hauling the weight of the coupe, those extra horses could mean all the difference.
I'd definitely be up for modding mine.
